Psychologists are registered with the Psychology Board of Australia and complete extensive education, training, and ongoing professional development. They support adults, adolescents, and children with a wide range of mental health concerns through evidence-based therapy. Psychologists do not prescribe medication.
Social workers (mental health specialisation) use a holistic approach that covers psychological factors, and social and environmental factors. Similar to Psychologists, Mental Health Social Workers are able to assist with assessment and treatment of psychological disorders. They have exposure to child wellbeing, protection, domestic/family violence, and alcohol and drug use. They undergo advanced training in mental health, and use a range of interventions to support their clients.
Provisional Psychologists have completed at least five years of tertiary training and are undertaking a supervised internship to develop their applied clinical skills. They work closely with a Board Approved supervisor to ensure high-quality, safe, and well-supported care. These sessions are not eligible for Medicare rebates; however, New Heights Therapy provides reduced fees so the out-of-pocket cost is comparable to seeing a Registered Psychologist with a Mental Health Treatment Plan.
When looking for a clinician, it is important that you find a practitioner who is experienced and able to meet your needs. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our reception staff to discuss therapeutic suitability with any of the practitioners in the team.
Our fees are dependent on the nature of the service, on the practitioner you are seeing and the funding you may be eligible for. Please call or email our reception staff for more information.
Yes it is! We have a ramp for access into the clinic and ample space in our waiting room and therapy rooms. However, our bathroom facilities are not yet wheelchair accessible.
